Montenegro gives green light for Korean Terraform co-founder Do Kwon to be extradited to the US
Montenegro's Minister of Justice, Bojan Bozovic, has decided to allow the extradition of Terraform's co-founder, Kwon Do Hyeong, to the United States, following his involvement in the collapse of two crypto assets worth over $40 billion in 2022, according to an announcement made by the country's Ministry of Justice on Friday, December 27, 2024.
The Ministry stated that it considered all facts and circumstances as well as assessed the gravity of the crimes, the jurisdiction the crime was committed, the order in which extradition requests for Do Kwon was submitted, his citizenship, the probability of any further extradition, among other circumstances. The Ministry also stated that it has in mind the supreme court's ruling while making these considerations.
According to Vijesti, a local news outlet, Montenegro's Supreme Court had previously adopted a request to protect legality and overturned the rulings of both the High and Appellate Courts upon finding that the competent authorities of the United States of America (USA) had met the conditions for extraditing Do Kwon. Montenegro's apex court made a decision to tender the case files to the Minister of Justice for him to decide the fate of the extradition permit.
